Before cellular phone service and VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) there was POTS which stands for Plain Old Telephone Service. While VoIP and cellular phone providers are becoming more dominant, POTS is still the standard when it comes to residential and business phone services – it will not be long before POTS is completely outdated and replaced by it’s more technologically advanced counterparts.
Plain Old Telephone Service providers still provide a more reliable service than Voice Over Internet Protocol and Cellular Phone providers but as the latter become more and more reliable, POTS will slowly fizzle out and join the ranks of VCR’s and 8-Track’s in the outdated and forgotten technology bin.
