Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS)
MMS or Multimedia Messaging Service is an extension of SMS that enables the ability to send text messages that include multimedia content to and from mobile phones.
The rise of smart phones has made it a common occurrence to use MMS to send photos and videos via text message – camera phones make it possible to capture any moment at any time and immediately share it with friends and family via MMS.
The MMS standard is developed by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and in addition to sending personal videos and photos via text, news agencies are now utilizing MMS to receive live reports and updates on current trending news.
Mobile phone carriers typically charge for the amount of data being sent via MMS but many of them also now offer unlimited data plans that allow users to send as many videos and pictures as they want via text message.
