“I am a youth minister and have spent hours in the past calling students individually to remind them of an upcoming event or to get out an urgent announcement. With DialMyCalls.com, I cut that time down to about 1 minute. I also love how I can see exactly who answered live and how long they listened so I know if they heard the whole message. DialMyCalls.com is the best website I have stumbled upon all year! Thanks!”

It’s that time of the year again. December is winding down and 2025 will soon be upon us. It’s a time for New Year’s resolutions, parties, and maybe some introspection. However, there’s more to it than that.
As the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, it’s not just the start of a new year. It’s a chance to build stronger relationships and even reach out to family and friends.
There’s so much more to this than just hanging a new calendar on the wall. This is an opportunity to build a better future, for yourself, your business, your customers, and your team members.
Whether you want to reach customers, communicate with your team, or send heartfelt messages to friends and family, New Year’s greetings set the tone for the year ahead.
And what’s the simplest, most personal way to spread those good vibes? A text message. SMS delivers immediacy, a personal touch, and a much-needed sense of connection without the noise of crowded inboxes or social feeds.
It tells the recipient that you took the time to type a personal note just for them. That’s a rarity today with our social status updates and omnipresent email pushes.
In this post, you’ll find creative New Year text templates, ideas, and tips to help you get the most out of your SMS efforts.
Why New Year Texts Matter
Before we explore examples of effective text messages, let’s tackle a bigger question. Why bother? Why add yet one more thing to your already overloaded schedule? We’ll explore the answers below, and some of them might surprise you.
For Businesses:
New Year’s messages are a golden opportunity to do the following:
- Strengthen connections: Remind customers and employees you value them. An unlooked-for text message can brighten someone’s day and let them know they’re seen.
- Drive engagement: Kickstart the year with promotions or get people excited with loyalty rewards. Why not get the new year started on a note of excitement? That can push you through the doldrums of winter and into early spring (consumer buying tends to peak at the holidays and retailers struggle to make headway in January and February).
- Boost morale: Inspire your team with forward-looking messages. This is a time of recommitment and renewal. Tap into that to create excitement surrounding the business and what the coming year has in store.
For Personal Use:
A simple “Happy New Year” text can go a long way in:
- Reconnecting: Bridge distances with heartfelt wishes. A personal wish on New Year’s Day is a great way to reach out to family and friends, even if you haven’t seen them in a while.
- Making someone’s day: A warm message brightens even the coldest January morning. We all like to be remembered, and something as simple as a text message tells others someone’s thinking about them.
- Showing thoughtfulness: A well-crafted text says, “You matter to me.”

Tips for Customizing Your New Year Texts
You can use the texts above without any personalization. That said, if you’ve got a spare second or two, personalizing them can really increase their benefits. That’s very important for personal relationships, but doubly so for businesses.

Your customers expect a personalized experience based on their interactions with your business. Personalizing your text messages speaks to that expectation.
Finally, personalization is also important for inter-business communications. It tells team members that you’re taking a moment to speak directly to them, not just sending the same text to everyone in the company.
To make your messages truly memorable:
- Personalize: Include names, unique details, or inside jokes for a warm, tailored touch. For customers, this might refer to a product or service they purchased. For team members, it could be a shared joke or experience. For friends and family, it could tie into shared memories.
- Use emojis: Add visual flair that matches your tone—festive for personal, polished for professional. Note that emojis may not be right for all texts, so use your best judgment.
- Be authentic: Write in a way that feels natural and genuine to your voice. If your recipients feel that your message isn’t really from you, it changes the experience.
- Include a CTA: For business messages, guide your audience to take action, like clicking a link or replying. Before writing your message, decide what you want them to do after reading it.
Best Practices for Sending New Year SMS
SMS is a powerful tool for businesses, but you need to use it correctly. Following best practices will help make sure that you get your message in front of your audience and do so without making mistakes that could cost you.
Timing Is Everything
- Send your messages on December 31st but don’t send it too late. If you’re covered by the TCPA (and you probably are), you can only send texts between the hours of 8 AM and 9 PM. Trying to capture the festive spirit by sending a text near midnight on New Year’s Eve isn’t just in bad taste, but it could put you on the wrong side of the law. Note that there are state-specific versions of the TCPA with even more restrictive hours.
- For promotions, aim for January 1st to maximize engagement when people are more receptive. On New Year’s Eve, the focus is on celebrating the moment and being with friends and family. On New Year’s Day, things change. People start planning for the next 12 months. That’s the time to get your offer out.
Mind Your Manners
- Do: Keep messages concise and respectful of your audience’s time. Ask yourself, would you be annoyed at the length of your message? If it takes more than a second or two to read and digest, it’s too much. And don’t send multiple follow-up messages. That’s a quick way to get a reputation for spamming.
- Don’t: Send texts to recipients who haven’t opted in—that’s a fast track to complaints and fines. If a recipient isn’t in your contact list, don’t text them. It’s as simple as that. This is where it pays dividends to craft really compelling landing pages and opt-in messages.
Stay Compliant
Follow legal guidelines like the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). Every recipient should opt in, and messages must include opt-out instructions (e.g., “Reply STOP to unsubscribe”). Don’t forget that the TCPA also dictates things like the times of day you can text people and that states may have their own more restrictive laws.
Not clear on what the TCPA sets out? Here are the basic points of the law in a nutshell:
- You must get clear, explicit consent before sending marketing texts.
- You must provide a simple way for recipients to opt out.
- You must promptly process all opt-out requests.
- You must clearly identify yourself (business name/sender identity).
- Do not text anyone on the Do Not Call Registry. It’s your responsibility to update your records to match the registry.
- You must be able to show consent, as well as how, when, and where it was obtained.
- You must maintain records of all opt-outs.
- You must not use harassing, threatening, or misleading language.
- You must comply with state laws if they’re more extensive/restrictive than the TCPA.
There you have them – the rules you’ll need to follow to stay on the right side of the law.
